Focused in cognitive studies and digital literacies. Researched and wrote extensively on the effects of new media and it affects the way we learn. For my thesis project I combined my skills in visual communication and instructional design to create Interactive IslandWood, an exploratory and educational guide to the science behind the school’s remarkable eco-friendly construction.

This research paper, headed by Mark Chen, evaluates the role of massively online role-playing games in social altruism.

Visual Literacy and the Classroom, New Horizons 2005 This article examines how technology is changing the way we think about literacy, and how teachers can respond in the classroom.

This paper recounts the history of visual media through an educational context.

Work/Volunteer Experience

Peace Corps Mauritania Volunteer, 2006 – Present
Developed and implemented the Peace Corps RIM database user interface. Worked with the Ministry of Education to improve their English curriculum. Organized workshops for high school and middle school English professors as well as conducted trainings. Wrote a teacher’s handbook to accompany the country’s English syllabus. Taught at, ran, and managed a 60-member center promoting girl’s education. Taught english to maritime mechanics and navigators.

Seattle Girl’s School Guest Teacher, 2005 & 2006
Developed curriculum and taught an 8-week beginning web design course to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

4thpass INC., a division of Motorola Technical Writer, 2004
Wrote, edited, and published a variety of end-user software documentation.

Children’s Hospital Grants Editor/Research Program Assistant, 2001-2003
Worked with medical researchers and doctors to write and edit successful FDA and NIH grants. Published illustrations in major medical journals, edited articles.

Interests
